Velo Cape Breton (VCB) has a long history of advocating for safe cycling and improved infrastructure on Cape Breton Island. We have worked with the Cape Breton Regional Municipality (CBRM) in the development of the Active Transportation Plan and since its acceptance in 2008, have continued to work collaboratively with the municipality to promote better active transportation opportunities, bicycle lanes, and awareness. We have lobbied the Nova Scotia provincial government for bicycle friendly roads and bridges.
CURRENT AREAS OF FOCUS:
Construction of Rumble Strips on Provincial Highways by the Department of Transportation in a manner that violates their own guidelines.
Painting of Fog Lines (white line on right hand side of road) that violates the Department of Transportation guidelines.
Development of a new Rails to Trails path in Glace Bay
Support of Velo Canada Bikes initiative for a National Cycling Strategy, and National Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Fund
