CAN-BIKE - Adult Advanced CB 2 Course
This is an advanced course in defensive cycling for commuters and recreational cyclists who already ride in traffic. Through the 18-hr course participants:
Classroom (2.5 hrs)
Traffic dynamics - where to ride on the road, positioning within lane, lane choice, intersection positioning, residential and pedestrian-style left turns, railroad tracks, principles of traffic flow.
The bicycle - Bike anatomy, choosing, adjusting, inspecting, maintenance, basic repair, security.
Outdoors/lndoors (2h)
Equipment - helmets, bike selection, how bikes work, bike parts, bike fit, safety equipment, ABC Quick Check, bike security basic maintenance - tool kit, lubrication, flats. Riding conditions and energy basics
On Road (13.5 hrs)
Group riding skills - pedalling technique, group riding etiquette
Handling skills - straight line riding, shoulder check, signaling, rock dodge, threshold braking, instant turn.
Riding on residential streets - entering the roadway, position within lane, parked cars, lane choice and changes, yielding and right of way, intersections, right turns, right turn only lane*, residential left turns, pedestrian style left turns, crossing streetcar/railway tracks*. (*As appropriate to students skill level and availability of teaching locations in local neighbourhoods)
Upon completion participants will receive a CAN-BIKE Certificate card.
Personalized sessions with minimum of 3, maximum of 5 participants per CAN-BIKE instructor. For members of Velo Cape Breton Bicycle Club. 1-year Membership application form.

Course fee: $90. per person. (Note: This is a one-time fee. Graduates of CB2 course can take a "refresher" free of charge at any time if space allows)
