The Lobster Roll Ride offers some of the most scenic bike rides in Cape Breton Regional Municipality winding along Sydney Harbour and the breathtaking coast of the eastern Bras d’Or Lakes.    The ride features three different routes of rolling terrain. 

 

Participants will have maps, support services and pit stops with food and water along the way. And a fantastic lunch from No Quarter Deli!

A happy crew will greet returning riders with bells ringing!

How many days does the Lobster Roll last?
The Lobster Roll is a one-day, “friendraising” ride along CBRM’s beautiful rockbound coast and the Bras d’Or Lakes

How many kilometres is the Lobster Roll Ride?
The Lobster Roll is actually three different routes of between 20 to 40km each, and a 3km for beginners and children.   You can pick the routes you want to ride to make up the distance you’d like do.  So this year you have the option of riding anywhere from 3km to 100km
.

Can I ride only one route of the Lobster Roll Ride?
  You can ride as many as you want.

How many riders do I need to make up a team or group?
We encourage riders to form teams  or groups so that members can support and encourage each other.   Your group can ride together or each person can set their own route and pace.

What level of riders will enjoy this ride?
Relaxed riders will enjoy anyone of the shorter rides (20km, 30km).  If you want more of a challenge pick several rides to make up a distance of  up to 100k,  There is a ride for everyone.

What are the routes of the Lobster Roll Ride?
Route #1:  ... Keltic Dr./Mountain Rd. Loop, 40km
Route #2:  ... Scotch Lake loop 30km or Barrachois 40km
Route #3:  ... Sydney Mines/Florence loop, 20km
Route #4:  ... Loop in the nearby sub-division.  3km

Pick your ride(s) and create the ride distance  you want to cycle If you want to cycle 70 to 100km you have to leave at 9:00 am.  If you pick  60 or 50km you will leave at 11:30am. People looking for the 20km or the 3km leave at 2 p.m. Cyclists choosing 40km have the option of leaving at 9:00am or 11:30pm. 

What is the exact course to follow on each legs?
Police escort will lead riders out of North Sydney for the start of each route from the
North Sydney Firefighters Club. The courses will be well marked. Be sure to use the maps/cue sheets in your registration package.

What is the starting time of each leg from the North Sydney Firefighters Club?
Route #1:    9:00 am         Route#2:  11:30 am        Route #3:  2:00 pm.    Route #4:   2:00 pm  Please arrive ½ hour before your start time to register.  Rides will start on Time.

Is Lobster Roll a supported ride?
Yes, there will be support vehicles on the course to assist riders.  Snack food and water will be available at Pit Stops and each route has one pit stop.  Lunch of lobster will be available at the
North Sydney Firefighters Club after 11 am until closing at approximately 4:30pm. Riders unable to continue for any reason will be picked up and driven to the North Sydney Firefighters Club.

Will there be police escort?
Police will escort riders to get through North Sydney.  At other times, police cruiser will patrol the course.   At all times, the rules of the road prevail.  Every rider is responsible for his/her own safety.

I want to volunteer, what do volunteers do?
We’d love to have help.  There are various jobs for any shift you want: parking, greeting, Pit Stop staffing,  welcoming committee as riders return (noisemakers provided), support vehicle driving, clean-up crew. Where should I park on the day of the Lobster Roll Ride?
There is a large parking lot and washroom facilities at the
North Sydney Firefighters Club.

Where do I register for the Lobster Roll Ride?
Online registration is available at velocapebreton.ca.  Paper registration forms also available on the website. 

Will I be able to register on site?
Yes, but it will cost you more.  We are volunteer organizers and our goal is to offer a high quality event to you; we need time to prepare the course, the ride kits, order and prepare provisioning at Pit Stops etc.   Please register early.  You will save dollars and will not be disappointed. 

Where will I get my lunch?
Each person who registers will receive a ready made lunch that includes a delicious lobster sandwich, potato salad and a brownie.  Chicken or vegan sandwiches are also available.  Kids meals include and chicken sandwich, carrot sticks and a brownie. Sandwiches and salads are from No Quarter Deli.  Lunch will be served.....3:30pm.   Additional lunches will be available for $18.00 each as long as supplies last.

What does it cost?
Youth 13 and older and Adults, registration up to June 18 incl.
  -  $25. 
Youth 13 and older and Adults, registration on Site:  $35.        All Youth 12 and under are $5. 

Can my children register on the Lobster Roll Ride?
Yes, children are very welcome. Teens aged 14 to 18 need to have the registration form signed/approved by a parent or guardian.  Youths less than 14 years of age must be accompanied on the road at all times by a parent/guardian.  

What happens if it rains? The event will be held rain or shine.  However, if the weather is too bad for riding, the rides will be cancelled , you can pick up your lunch choice at the North Sydney Firefighters Club between 11:00am and 2:00pm.
